Altcoin is an abbreviation that originated from the English term ‘alternative coin’. It refers to all cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin, which was the first currency of its kind. There are currently thought to be tens of thousands of cryptocurrencies. Typical examples of altcoins are Ethereum, Litecoin, Tether, and Solana.
