About the Game
Upland released its closed beta to a small investor group in June 2019. The game has continued to evolve since then. Players could trial an open beta version in January 2020.
The Upland creators have started to tokenize the world. What does this actually mean? They started with San Francisco by turning it into NFT collectibles.
The idea came during a game of Monopoly, and a virtual world representing the real one was created.

Upland Universe has two user levels: Visitors and Uplanders.
Visitors
A visitor player account is connected to an EOS account owned by Upland.
At this stage, the players’ private keys are held by Upland. The reason for this is to monitor visitor activities. Upland has full control over the assets ($UPX game currency) earned through this account, and the assets can be reused for the community if the account is inactive for a certain period.
Uplanders
You can become an Uplander by buying real estate. Players take control of their EOS account and link it to their Upland account. Uplanders will be able to build or add buildings to city land as well.
There is no specific strategy. The goal is to collect as much real estate and in-game currency as possible to keep $UPX coming onto the player’s account.
$UPX gains can be tracked through leaderboards so everyone can see how much competitor real estate or $UPX there is.
Owners can collect multiple pieces of real estate.
Collections can be, for example, in the form of three two-story buildings in LA.
A completed collection unlocks $UPX rewards. Collections can also be traded on the marketplace.
Upland players can own the same piece of real estate in real life and in the game, or they can buy a dream house that they see on the street every day. Uplanders can trade and sell real estate, add to collections, challenge each other, satisfy their collecting mania with in-game collectibles, and be part of an economy built around decentralized dynamics.
Players have several options if they want to acquire real estate:
Block explorer
These explorers are in-game avatars that travel around the map and help players randomly explore the area.

Player location
The player can choose where they will be located. If they activate their location, they can determine available characteristics and see what else is nearby.
Marketplace
Players will find real estate listed by other players here.
If they are willing to pay the required $UPX price, they can buy the real estate.
Mystery packs
Packs containing several pieces of real estate that can be purchased in the Upland store.
Paper deeds
QR codes for real estate. These paper documents can be obtained through marketing campaigns or from other players.
Player Requirements
Simply register your email address and create a username and password. Common payment methods such as PayPal, credit card and in-app payments can be used. Players have to pass the KYC process to sell their real estate for USD.
Economics
tokenomics
The $UPX in-game currency is an exchangeable token on the EOS mainnet that can be purchased for fiat currency (USD) in the Upland store.
There is also virtual real estate, which is NFT on the EOS mainnet, matching real-world addresses.
NFT real estate is game assets, just like $UPX and virtual real estate. This real estate can be bought and sold on the Upland marketplace for $UPX or USD.
Holding real estate in the game can be considered staking.
When players hold real estate, they regularly earn $UPX, as each piece of Upland real estate passively generates $UPX.
monetization
Players can earn $UPX by holding real estate as well as by putting together real estate collections.
Players will earn $UPX after completing each collection.
$UPX cannot be exchanged or sold for USD as it is an in-game currency.
Players can earn USD using the NFT-to-USD feature. All they have to do is offer their real estate for sale for USD. Once their real estate is sold, they will receive USD instead of $UPX.
Players can hold their real estate and generate passive income in the form of $UPX – staking.
Partners
Upland recently partnered with FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.

analyst opinion
“I’m a Monopoly fan. The idea of private real estate being converted into NFT isn’t a bad idea at all because real estate is a solid example of non-tradable assets, and the game concept is well configured.
The game is easy to understand and play. I also like the daily bonuses for users. The ability to sell assets for USD is also a feature I appreciate.
There are plans to add more cryptocurrencies to be used in marketplace transactions.
The game makes it easy for new users to join and the setup is smart. Being able to see street views makes the game attractive.
Sometimes the game can feel a little monotonous. However, it is still in its early stages, and new features will be added later.
For example, real estate owners will be able to convert their buildings into clubs, cafés, and the like.
The point of the game is not to make quick money and sell off your real estate. The NFT real estate will become more valuable over time if there is interest in the game. If the developers continue updating according to the schedule, the game really has a chance.
Think of it as an investment in a promising piece of real estate where only a few people currently live. If the area gets richer, the price of the real estate will rise and you will be able to sell it for double what you paid. This is how I personally see this game.
Don’t expect high quality textures or high-definition graphics, as the game is very simple and takes place on a map. Hopefully, this will change in the future as more updates are released.
The game can be played on a phone, but it is not as effective as the map is better viewed on a PC with a larger screen.
Overall, I think it’s a very fun idea, and we’ll see what the game brings us in the future.”
