Gaming Giant Ubisoft Launches New NFT Collection

Ubisoft has started selling its latest NFT collection featuring a total of 2 066 Rabbids NFT avatars, which will be listed for collectors in The Sandbox. With this move, Ubisoft is signaling its intention to delve deeper into the Web 3.0 space.

At the time of writing, the price for the cheapest NFT was at 138 SAND, which was approximately 110 USD. The Rabbids avatars are themed around the Chinese New Year, which is the year of the rabbit this year. A variety of designs will be available for the Rabbids, which were unveiled on Friday, February 24, with the last day of February scheduled for the launch of the game world in The Sandbox.

Avatar Rabbids are described as "the key to future utility" in The Sandbox, including access to potential future drops.

NFT Rabbids characters previously appeared in The Sandbox in the summer of 2022, along with various accessories and items. However, they could not be used for gameplay at the time. This is now changing, and newly purchased characters can be used in game. For Ubisoft, this is a significant step forward in Web 3.0 technology.

Ubisoft - a major game studio at the forefront of Web 3.0 innovation

Ubisoft is one of the first major games companies to take steps in the field of Web 3.0 and NFTs.

Back in 2018, the gaming giant was developing a prototype NFT game inspired by the world-famous Minecraft. The game was called HashCraft, but unfortunately, the project was eventually shelved indefinitely.

Ubisoft has also backed other NFT game projects such as Axie Infinity and Nine Chronicles, and has also invested in metaverse company, Animoca Brands, and game maker, Horizon.

The company also launched a Tezos-based NFT for its own PC version of Ghost Recon Breakpoint, which allowed it to link these assets to a traditional game that did not have NFT functionality at launch. The NFT platform, which was a multiplayer shooter called "Quartz," allowed players to collect and trade unique weapons and equipment.

Unfortunately, at launch, there was a backlash from players who were against NFTs, and due to their high prices, they labeled the move as being another way for Ubisoft to extract money from players. All of this led to the temporary discontinuation of the game, however the company has stated that the Quartz platform will be used for future games.

But despite the negative response from gamers, Ubisoft has now increased its commitment to Web 3.0 innovation, and is pushing ahead with plans to offer more advanced Web 3.0 and NFT products.

Although it is not yet clear exactly what NFT avatars Rabbids will offer, the prospect of NFTs in the game is certainly intriguing. While some longtime Ubisoft game players may disagree with the move, fearing that it could be a ploy to get players to spend more money, the introduction of these services could in fact be beneficial to both the manufacturer and the players.

Overall, Ubisoft's entry into the Web 3.0 and NFT space is quite promising for the company and the gaming industry.
