Rapper Snoop Dogg Co-Founded the Web 3.0 Platform for Livestreams

Snoop Dogg has been publicly involved in the Web 3.0 since 2021 when NFT started gaining popularity.

One of America's best-known rappers, Snoop Dogg, has been unveiled as the co-founder of a live stream platform created for Web 3.0 called "Shiller." For Snoop Dogg, this is yet another Web 3.0 partnership he has entered into.

The Shiller app is billed as a "live stream platform" meant to combine Web 3.0 technology with real-time live streams. Snoop Dogg has been named along with entrepreneur Sam Jones as co-founders of the platform.

With this announcement, the rapper continues the Web 3.0 partnership he began last year.

In April 2022, Snoop Dogg launched his NFT collection titled "Snoop Avatars" through The Sandbox and released a rap song called "A Hard Working Man," which was subsequently accompanied by a 50,000 NFT drop.

In partnership with Yuga Labs, the company behind the successful NFT collections Bored Ape Yacht Club and CryptoPunks, Snoop Dogg performed on a created metaverse stage at the MTV Video Music Awards on August 29 last year.

Among the other partnerships, he's made crypto casino Roobet, where Snoop Dogg is set to serve as "Chief Ganjaroo Officer," according to a statement on March 1 of this year.

As for the Shiller platform, blockchain will play a significant role here, allowing content creators to "token-gate" their streams and promote NFT or other products from e-commerce websites. It means that content creators on this platform will be paid in cryptocurrencies such as Ether or NFT, which can then be exchanged for fiat currency. Its release was planned for January. According to the latest news on March 2, it has been postponed until April.

Creative Economy Movement

The Shiller platform is likely part of a larger creative economy movement in which Web 3.0 will play an important role.

While "Web 1.0" allowed users to write HTML and read content, "Web 2.0" enabled interactions between users, creating many social media monopolies such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and many others. "Web 3.0" aims to remove the middleman by giving creators full ownership of their content and all funds derived from their creations.

Various decentralized messaging platforms are emerging, with one of them, "Damus," aiming to compete with Twitter and gradually "replace" it.

This platform, backed by Jack Dorsey, launched in the Apple Store on February 1. Damus is built on a decentralized network called "Nostr" and allows for end-to-end encrypted messaging. The platform also will enable payments in bitcoin using the Lightning network.
