Taxes can be paid with cryptocurrency

The province of Mendoza in Argentina is to accept cryptocurrencies for tax payments.‍

The government of the province will immediately convert payments in crypto into Argentine pesos.

It will be possible to make tax payments with cryptocurrencies in the Argentine province of Mendoza. This announcement came from the Mendoza tax authority on Saturday, August 27, 2022. Mendoza is the fifth-largest territory in the country, and has a population of over 2 million.

Mendoza’s government has announced it will accept payments with any crypto wallet, including Binance, Bitso, Buenbit, Bybit, Ripio, and Lemon.

Although many crypto wallets are accepted, not all coins will be. Payments will be only made with stablecoins such as DAI and USDT.

Mendoza Tax Administration sees this service as part of its strategic objective to modernize and innovate, and aims to provide taxpayers with different ways to meet their tax obligations.

Payments will be converted into Argentine pesos after being received by the Mendoza Tax Administration, with this service being provided via a private online payment service provider, the government said.

Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires announced plans to accept tax payments using cryptocurrencies in April, but Mayor Horacio Rodríguez Larreta has not specified a launch date yet. Meanwhile, in March, the city of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil announced that municipal real estate taxes will be accepted via cryptocurrencies starting in 2023.
