The transition to Web 3.0 will happen sooner than many expect

Yat Siu, co-founder and chairman of Animoca Brands, believes the transition to Web 3.0 will happen sooner than many expect.

Animoca has become one of the leading proponents of an open metaverse built on blockchain technology. It also amasses one of the world's largest portfolios of Web 3.0 investments. Animoca Brands' investments are valued at $1.5 billion and are spread across cryptocurrencies and blockchain games across 340 companies. Among the most well-known projects that Animoca Brands has funded in the very beginning are OpenSea and SandBox. As a result, Animoca's co-founder has access to information that most people don't.

Siu predicted that hundreds of millions of new participants will join the world of the metaverse and blockchain games over the next 18 months or so. The reason for this is thought to be due to the supply of new and better blockchain games that will attract a new wave of people. He also pointed to the 3.2 billion people regularly playing video games, which he said already operate in "closed metaverses". People playing these games have created virtual identities and acquired digital goods. Many gamers think they own these goods, but in fact they do not. The gaming industry merely rents these virtual goods to its players.

Web 3.0 is intended to enable the transfer of digital ownership into the hands of users so that they can move freely across platforms. Siu says people will appreciate the value this freedom gives them as they find more ways to use their NFTs across the gaming world.

"The adoption of Web 3.0 will be driven by younger demographics. One of the reasons young people are attracted to Web 3.0 is not because it represents better technology, but it actually represents a better future," said Siu.

The younger generation feels that "existing financial systems and existing opportunities don't work for them," Siu said. Web 3.0 allows you to be more creative and to have digital ownership across platforms, which creates more opportunities.
