About the game

Player Requirements

The game has been developed for Android and iOS. It is available for download in the respective official stores, or on the project’s website. An initial investment in sneakers is needed at the beginning. You can buy these directly on the app on the marketplace. For this, you need a wallet. You can either pair the game with your own wallet, or create a new STEPN-only wallet directly in the app.

The initial investment is a minimum of around 120 USD.

The time you want to devote to the project is entirely up to you, but bear in mind that if you sign up for the marathon, you must finish it, or you'll lose money unnecessarily.

Earnings are based on the quality of the shoe, the level, and the current price of $GST. For example, with an average level 9 shoe, you can earn around 3 USD daily.

Analytic Opinion

"I really like STEPN. I like walking, and think the project sheds a positive light on the world of cryptocurrencies in general. There is a huge community on Twitter - over half a million - and by making the app work like a regular phone app, the game is well positioned to attract people outside the blockchain.

Overall, the game itself is not very complicated. Pay attention to the wear and tear of your shoes, how much energy you have left, and whether you have exceeded the possible earnings limit. Also, check you have the right shoes for your speed, then you're ready to go. There is a bit of an initial investment required here; unfortunately, it's relatively high, and you can't play without it.

I spoke to the community, and they highlighted the main problem as there being too many shoes in the game. The project has responded by adding a program to burn bad shoes with the possibility of gaining better ones, and has also increased shoe pairing fees. This should work.

Overall, I like the development of the project. It indicates that there is still something to work on, and the developers are not lagging behind. In fact, they have responded to Solana's outages recently by creating a multichain and the possibility to run the project on the BSC network as well. I rate that quite positively.

Finally, the project has a strong team, advisors, and partnerships, and there is an anti-cheat system in place to keep everything fair. The game continues to grow, and the project is solid.

I am looking forward to the possibility of staking the main token, but even without that function, I would still recommend the project."

STEPN is the first Move&Earn game based on the Solana blockchain, but the project is currently being extended to Binance Smart Chain.

Running and walking are the main activities. You need to pair or create a wallet in the app, buy shoes, then start moving.

The shoes come in 4 categories, which determine how fast you can move to earn. With a Walker class shoe, you can go a maximum of 6 km/h. The most popular category is the Jogger, where you can walk or jog at 4 - 10 km/h. The required speed for the Runner class is 8 - 20 km / h. The last class is the Trainer, whose speed is set at 1 - 20 km / h.

Each STEPN shoe still has its own quality, and it gains abilities accordingly. There are common, uncommon, rare, epic, and legendary shoes, and the better the shoe, the more you can earn.

The abilities of the shoe are: Efficiency, which leads to better earnings per energy consumed in solo mode, while in marathon mode, it accumulates ranking points faster. Luck determines the frequency and quality of mystery boxes. Comfort, which used to be Efficiency, is now being reworked, and with Durability, the higher it is, the longer the shoe can last. In marathon mode, this will help you score more points because your shoe is more durable.

The levels of each shoe go up. From level 30, you can earn $GST and $GMT and change your decision anytime. Up to level 30, you can only earn $GST.

Shoes wear out over time, and the rewards for using them decrease. If a shoe wears down to half (50 / 100), you only earn 90%, and if it wears down to 20 / 100 or less, the reward is reduced to 10%.

Game modes:

Solo mode

In this mode, you choose your NFT shoe and go. To earn Green Satoshi Tokens ($GST), you need energy. One energy on your shoe is equal to five minutes of use. If your shoes run out of energy, you will stop earning.

The concept of Moonwalking will appear if you have a weak internet connection or your signal or your movement is unnatural (e.g., riding a scooter or tying your phone to your dog, etc.) If you get this notification, you will not be earning any money at that time, and may also be losing energy unnecessarily.

While walking, you may also come across a mystery box. This contains $GST and level 1-3 gems that you can use to upgrade your shoes. You have 4 slots in your inventory reserved for these boxes.

The gems come in four colors: yellow for efficiency, blue for luck, red for comfort, and purple for durability.

Marathon mode

If you want to participate, you must register at least 24 hours before the start. To know that your participation is binding, you pay a small fee, which you will receive back after completing the marathon. If you do not complete the marathon, the fee will go into a chest and be redistributed with the rewards for that marathon.

The weekly marathon lasts a week, and players can choose to participate in a 2.5km, 5km, or 7.5km marathon. However, they can only participate in one of them at a time.

The monthly marathon is one month long, and there is a choice of 5km, 10km, or 15km routes. As with the weekly marathon, you can only participate in one of these.

A table will be added to the game, with marathon participants being ranked by speed and shoe stats.

Based on the spreadsheet, $GST and $GMT rewards will then be given out, and there will be an opportunity to receive a gold, silver, or bronze medal. Each participant will also receive an NFT participation badge.

Background mode is also being developed. This mode does not consume power and is not counted against the daily $GST limit. It is limited to 3000 steps per day and can be participated in when you are not actively using STEPN.

In addition to the modes, there is also a quest system, offering a fixed reward for daily quests. During weekly quests, you can get more tasks and more rewards. Monthly quests pay out in tokens when completed. The last is Holidayquest, which is a special event for NFT shoe airdrops.

Energy and earnings limit

You will encounter energy and earnings limits in the game. Everyone starts the game with 2 / 2 Energy. This can be increased up to 20 / 20.

Energy is renewed by 25% every 6 hours. To have more energy, you need to buy more sneakers.

Each player also starts with a daily token limit of 5 / 5. This can be increased up to 300 / 300. The stats of the shoes again determine further increases, or these can be further increased by using a $GMT token. From level 30, you can also earn $GMT, and there is no limit to the amount you can make, unlike $GST.

A Shoe-Minting Event (SME) is where you can get a new sneaker by pairing two of your shoes. The two shoes must have full durability to be put together. Each shoe can multiply up to 7 times in this way, with the fee being higher each time it is paired again.

You choose two sneakers and click the "Mint" button. Then, after paying the appropriate amount in $GST and $GMT, a box with the new shoe will appear. After you have done this, both shoes must "cool" for 72 hours before they can be paired again. You can, however, still use them for walking.

The quality of the paired shoes determines the quality of the new shoe. The SME price will change from time to time in order to balance the demand for both project tokens.

Anti-cheat system

STEPN doesn’t run on rooted or jailbroken devices at all. The project warns that it won't help you get your assets back if you cheat. The game has a system you can't see, but it gives you a score. Your score must be 100 / 100. If it drops, it will temporarily close your access to the marketplace, and you won’t be able to make transfers between your accounts.

Things like hacking the GPS or the momentum and movement on your phone, walking with multiple phones with STEPN running simultaneously, and attaching your phone to an animal to walk for you, are all considered cheating. On the other hand, you don't have to worry about hanging out with friends who also play STEPN, or about having two phones if you only play STEPN on one.
